Trek 03 Production Strategy

1. The area I would like to explore more is the bridge in the northeast corner of Downer Woods. This seems like an interesting spot and there are usually birds in the area that can make some interesting sound clips. Here is a map of Downer Woods, showing the bridge.

2. I have two image capturing strategies for this trek. They are:
  • To take images/videos of trees without leaves.
  • To take extreme close-ups, of an area no bigger than 8 inches.

3. My two audio capturing strategies for Trek 03 are:
  • To capture audio with the microphones as far apart as possible.
  • To capture audio with the microphones at different heights.

Ten Questions

1. Are there any paths or areas of Downer Woods I haven’t explored yet?

2. Are there different sounds at different times of the day?

3. Can I find anymore strange looking trees?

4. Are there any interesting trees in the area but not inside Downer Woods?

5. Can I record urban and nature sounds together without them clashing?

6. Can I find other animals besides birds and squirrels?

7. Can I find some interesting colored leaves?

8. Can I get some interesting close-ups of trees?

9. Is there a way to make my video clips more interesting?

10. Is there a way to get really interesting stereo sounds?

Trek Assessment #4

I don’t have a favorite experience during my treks I just overall enjoyed it. Being alone with my headphones on made me feel like I was in my own world. I didn’t think I would enjoy just walking in the forest, but it was a neat experience.

Trek Assessment #3

The first thing that surprised me on my Treks was the amount of background noise in Downer Woods. I figured it would be a very quiet place, but with the road in the back and the basketball courts to the side there was lots of background noise. The second thing was the small amount of nature sounds. I thought there would be a lot more, but I mostly got just birds. Another surprise was how much I enjoyed going out and gathering material. I thought it would be boring just walking around in the woods, but I ended up really enjoying it.

Trek Assessment #2

I felt peaceful just walking in Downer Woods. With my headphones on I felt like I was in my own world. Also just stopping every once in a while and just listening to the nature sounds was peaceful as well.

Trek Assessment #1

One thing that bothered me during Treks 1 and 2 was having to carry a lot of equipment. It was hard to keep everything un-tangled and in order. Another difficulty was recording sounds in Downer Woods can be difficult sometimes. Even though it is a nature preserve there is still lots of traffic and background sound.
